Firefighters double the number of soldiers on the streets due to the rains in RJ

The Rio de Janeiro Fire Department (CBMERJ) will work with twice as many soldiers in preparation for the heavy rains forecast for the next few days. The commanders will be on standby, starting this Thursday (21), together with the troops for an agile response to possible occurrences in the Serrana, South, North and Baixada Fluminense regions.

According to information from firefighters, as of this Wednesday (20), CBMERJ had already responded to 766 incidents of landslides, landslides, flooding and flooding related to rain in the state, with a peak of 648 calls in January this year.

The Secretary of State for Civil Defense and general commander of CBMERJ, Colonel Leandro Monteiro, told CNN be ready, prepared to act with full force, if the risk scenario is confirmed.

“All CBMERJ resources are available to the population of Rio de Janeiro”, stated the colonel.

According to the National Center for Monitoring and Alerts of Natural Disasters of Rio de Janeiro (Cemaden-RJ), this Thursday, there will be moderate to heavy rain showers across the state.

The arrival of a cold front, between Thursday night and Friday morning (22), will cause moderate to very heavy rain at any time, accompanied by lightning and gusts of moderate to strong winds, generating accumulated highs until the next Sunday (24).

Governor Cláudio Castro highlighted “investments of more than R$3 billion” in rain prevention actions throughout the state, he stated.

“Around R$1 billion was allocated to the Fire Department alone in equipment, vehicles and machinery. Civil Defense personnel are ready to act and protect lives”, concluded Castro.
