The Rio de Janeiro Fire Department ended, this Sunday (27), the search for victims in Morro da Oficina, in Petrópolis, in the mountainous region of the state. 93 dead were found at the scene. Today, around 230 military personnel work in the operation.
The mission recorded more than 100 search points, involving more than 500 local firefighters, 140 from other states and 50 sniffer dogs.
The corporation has been working since February 15 in operations to search for victims of the heavy rains that hit the city.
So far, according to the Civil Police’s Technical and Scientific team, 229 deaths have been recorded, of which 136 are women, 93 are men and 43 are minors. 24 people were rescued alive, according to the Fire Department.
The military remain working at Chácara Flora, where they are looking for two people. And they still sweep the city’s rivers, in which three victims disappeared.
“We are closely monitoring all this work and we will continue to guarantee the necessary support for the military to find those who are still missing in our municipality. Our priority is these searches and the care of all affected people”, highlighted Mayor Rubens Bomtempo (PSB).
