About 40 agents from the Rio de Janeiro Fire Department have already landed in Bahia to help with the rescue work in cities that have been hit by heavy rains and floods in recent days. They left Rio late this Wednesday morning (29) at Galeão airport and arrived early in the afternoon.
The team sent to Bahia comprises specialists in disasters, lifeguards, vessel operators and pre-hospital care professionals. In addition to the military, the government of Rio provided 20 boats, first-aid kits and materials to prevent flooding.
An aircraft had already left for Bahia on the afternoon of Tuesday (28) with the support of the specialized aerial group.
In all, the floods have left 21 dead, 359 injured and more than 34,000 homeless across the state.
