Firefighters intensify search for 4 missing people after rains in RJ state

The Fire Department intensified the search for the four missing from the rains that hit the state of Rio de Janeiro since April 2nd.

In Angra dos Reis, on the Costa Verde, a father and two sons were in a house on the paradisiacal beach of Itaguaçu, on Ilha Grande, when an avalanche of land destroyed the region and practically made the existing strip of sand disappear. Access to the site is only by sea or air.

In Paraty, also in Costa Verde, teams are working to find a child who was at home with his mother and five other siblings. All died after the landslide from the site. In all, the State Civil Defense recorded 19 deaths in the disaster caused by the storm last weekend.

Among the victims, 17 are from the municipalities of Costa Verde – Angra dos Reis, with ten victims, and Paraty with six confirmed deaths. The other two deaths were recorded in the cities of Mesquita and Cachoeiras de Macacu, in the Metropolitan Region. The damage also caused more than 7,000 people to leave their homes because of the risk of collapse.

THE CNN had access to videos made by firefighters in the tourist areas of Angra dos Reis and Paraty, devastated after the rains and which still record missing persons. The military works continuously in these places, and has the support of specialized teams, dogs and various equipment. In the images, areas known for their beauty and demand for tourists appear devastated by the force of nature.

Access to Angra dos Reis, via the Rio-Santos Highway (BR 101), still has several points of partial and total interdiction, due to landslides and flooding. The Public Ministry of the State of Rio de Janeiro (MPRJ) monitors the tragedy in the cities and has already demanded from the municipal and state authorities the total and rapid clearing of roads and highways impacted by landslides, especially BR 101 – South Section. – Rio-Santos.

The agility is precisely so that the supply of supplies and the normality of the circulation of goods, people and merchandise can be made possible. The Federal Highway Police (PRF) recommends that people avoid commuting. The weather forecast for this Wednesday (6) is for light rain and the most affected cities in Costa Verde are in the attention stage.
