From Friday (13) to Sunday (15), 1,642 people were rescued by the Fire Department along the 246 kilometers of Rio de Janeiro’s coastline. Most of the rescues (1,492) took place on Sunday, when the temperature exceeded 50 degrees.
The beaches of Recreio dos Bandeirantes (744) and Barra da Tijuca (579) were the ones with the highest number of cases.
During the weekend, lifeguards also carried out 44,938 preventive actions and rescued 473 children lost along the Rio de Janeiro coast.
Since the beginning of Operation Summer, in December, 2,677 rescues at sea, 138,638 prevention actions and 688 aid to children who got lost on the shore have already been registered. The planned actions continue until March. The investment reaches R$ 12 million.
Currently, around 1,200 military personnel work on the beaches of the state of Rio, with the support of boats, boats, jet skis, ATVs, helicopters and drones.
