Fires hit the highway that gives access to the Pantanal

Forest fires hit this Thursday (16) the area of ​​the Transpantaneira highway, which is the main access route to the Pantanal, in Mato Grosso. According to the state government, however, the road still operates normally.

According to the government of Mato Grosso, around 100 Fire Department soldiers work on eight firefighting fronts in the Pantanal, 60 of which are dedicated exclusively to the Transpantaneira region.

The firefighting actions are supported by three planes to dump water, a helicopter and 11 boats to infiltrate teams, as well as vehicles and water trucks.

Across the state of Mato Grosso, 2,663 fires were recorded between the 1st and 15th of November.

The governments of Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul declared an emergency situation due to fires in the northern region of Pantanal.

The measures enable the participation of the federal government in state areas through Civil Defense, in addition to the transfer of resources for actions to combat forest fires and municipalities affected by the disaster.

The Mato Grosso decree, published on Tuesday (14), is valid for 60 days and reinforces another measure that determined the extension of the prohibitive period for burning in the state until November 30, to meet a requirement from the federal government. in the request for support to fight fires.

In Mato Grosso do Sul, the emergency decree, also published on Tuesday, will be valid for 90 days and is valid for the municipalities of Corumbá, Ladário, Miranda, Aquidauana and Porto Murtinho, cities in the Pantanal region most affected by the fires.
