The Los Angeles County coroner confirmed this Friday (10) that there are at least 11 deaths associated with the fires in the region.
Five of the deaths appear to be from the Palisades Fire and six deaths from the Eaton Fire, according to office records.
Authorities have warned that they cannot determine the total death toll from the fires until it is safe for investigators to go to neighborhoods where there are downed power lines, gas leaks and other hazards.
Four major wildfires are active in Los Angeles County.
More than 153,000 people are under evacuation orders, the county sheriff said Friday.
After countywide warnings were accidentally sent to millions of people, officials apologized, emphasized that work is ongoing to resolve the issue, and asked people not to disable their alerts.
At least 10,000 properties were destroyed, said Los Angeles County Assessor Jeff Prang.
The coastal Palisades fire could be the costliest in U.S. history, according to a climate expert. Authorities said this Friday (10) that firefighters have made progress and that the fire is 8% contained.
Firefighting crews expect more wind and dry conditions to continue to complicate efforts next week.
If the winds are too strong, firefighting aircraft will not be able to take off.
