Fires spread in Russian-controlled Donetsk after bombing

Several buildings were set on fire in the city of Donetsk on Monday morning after Ukrainian artillery attacks in the area, currently under Russian occupation, according to authorities and social media.

According to the Russian-backed Joint Control and Coordination Center, six rockets hit the Voroshilovsky district of Donetsk at 3:13 am local time.

Witnesses on social media reported a lack of water as the great fire continued after the bombing.

Social media videos geolocated by CNN showed the Donetsk Railway Administration building among those on fire in the central part of the city.

Ukraine plans more power cuts on Monday

Ukraine’s state energy company Ukrenergo warned on Monday morning that the country would face more scheduled and unscheduled power cuts.

“From 6 am until the end of the day, there will be scheduled power outages in the city of Kiev and in the regions of Kiev, Chernihiv, Cherkasy, Zhytomyr, Sumy, Kharkiv, Poltava,” Ukrenergo said on his Facebook and Telegram channels.

“There will also be emergency outages in certain regions. They will be introduced by regional power distribution companies if the deficit is greater than planned. In the event of emergency blackouts, electricity can be cut earlier than planned and consumption restrictions can last longer.”

Ukraine’s electricity infrastructure has been under severe strain since Russia began attacking power plants on October 10.

“The country’s electricity grid still cannot resume full operation after the terrorist attacks by Russia,” Ukrenergo said. “We have to introduce power cuts in some regions to avoid overloading the high voltage infrastructure.”
