First batch of Pfizer vaccines for children arrives in Brazil this Thursday (13)

The first shipment of doses of Pfizer’s childhood vaccine against Covid-19 arrived in Brazil in the early hours of this Thursday (13). In the batch are 1.2 million vaccines that will be destined for the Brazilian government for distribution to states and municipalities, following the population criterion.

The immunizers – intended for the public between 5 and 11 years of age – arrived at Viracopos International Airport, in Campinas (SP), at 4:40 am and will be received by the Ministry of Health, which will begin distribution to the states this Thursday.

In an interview with CNN This Tuesday (11), the Minister of Health, Marcelo Queiroga, guaranteed that there will be no delays in the delivery of doses of vaccine intended for the immunization of children against Covid-19.

“As soon as Anvisa approved it, we requested these doses, so that there will be no delay in terms of deliveries. The pharmaceutical industry that produces these vaccines is very punctual in deliveries. Today, it is the most used immunizer in Brazil, it has been important for our vaccination campaign. The same will happen in relation to children”, said the minister.

Last Monday (10), Queiroga said that Pfizer would bring forward the delivery of 600,000 of the 4.3 million doses of the pediatric vaccine against Covid-19 to January. “With Pfizer, we were able to anticipate another 600,000 doses of the pediatric vaccine now in January. So there will be 4.3 million doses of vaccine”, he informed.

Distribution of childhood vaccines

In all, Brazil should receive 4.3 million doses in January. For February, the expectation is that Pfizer will deliver another 7.2 million doses and, in March, another 8.4 million immunizers. The vaccination schedule for children consists of two doses with an interval of eight weeks.
