The first Brazilian vaccine against avian flu will enter the phase of clinical tests in humans after authorization from the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa). The immunological is being developed by the Butantan Institute in São Paulo.
The institute will recruit 700 volunteers in the states of Pernambuco, Minas Gerais and São Paulo. Participants will be divided into two age groups, between 18 and 59 years and over 60 years.

Pregnant women, women trying to get pregnant or breastfeeding, people with untt controlled clinical condition, allergic to egg and people or in the process of immunosuppressive therapy, cannot participate.
The initiative will evaluate the safety and immunological efficacy of the new vaccine. The testing phase will be led by researchers from Fiocruz Pernambuco and the Plastic Clinical Research Center, Rafael Dhalia and Carlos Brito.

Participants will receive two doses of vaccine or placebo. The interval between doses is 21 days. Only 1 among 7 volunteers will receive the placebo.
The clinical study will be conducted at the Plastanian Center for Clinical Research lasting seven months. At this time, participants will be accompanied by visits and examinations to evaluate the immunological safety and effectiveness of the immunizer.
An initial screening will also be made with biochemical, hematological and serological examinations that will be performed at the Real Portuguese Hospital. Cell immunity analysis of the vaccine will be conducted in Fiocruz Pernambuco.
