First index of agribusiness companies debuts on B3 this Monday

B3 debuts this Monday (16) the first agro-themed index, which will monitor the performance of companies in the sector in Brazil. This is the Agro Free Float Sector Index (IAGRO B3).

As announced by B3, the portfolio of the new indicator will consist of shares and units of listed companies, which were categorized as Agribusiness by the new sectoral classification created by B3 at the request of the market.

To participate in the indicator’s portfolio, the asset must meet liquidity criteria, such as being present in 95% of the trading sessions in the last 12 months and not being classified as a “penny stock” (that is, having an average price above R$1).

The executive director of Listed Products and Data at B3, Luís Kodic, explained in the note that “we proposed to make a comprehensive classification, covering all the direct and indirect sectors of agribusiness, and not just companies that have their activities related to agriculture or to livestock.

With this, the market will be able to offer new products linked to this index, giving investors other ways to diversify their portfolio”.

According to B3, the new indicator is an important step towards facilitating investment in the sector, as it allows new products with exposure to agribusiness, such as ETFs and other passive funds, to be offered to investors. The product will be available on the B3 website, in the following path: Market Data and Indices, Segment and Sector Indices, B3 Agribusiness Index (B3 Agro Classification).

The composition of the portfolio will be reviewed every four months, always in January, May and September. The IAGRO B3 portfolio will consist of 32 assets, in the following shares:
