As reported by XDA-Developers, the new flagship Snapdragon SoC for wearables will be called the Snapdragon Wear 5100. As a reminder, Qualcomm recently announced that it plans to release new Snapdragon Wear SoCs.
A reference to the chip with the number LAW.UM.2.0-00700-SW5100.0 was found on the Qualcomm Code Aurora forum. LAW is short for Linux Android Wear. Android Wear is the previous name for Wear OS. UM supposedly stands for Unified Modem, while SW5100 may be short for Snapdragon Wear 5100. The chip is codenamed Monaco.
Snippets of code indicate that the new platform is running Android 10 and Android 11. It is not yet known if the upcoming Wear OS 3 from Google and Samsung will be supported. The Snapdragon Wear 5100 is reported to have a quad-core processor with ARM Cortex-A73 cores. The Snapdragon Wear 4100 is powered by ARM Cortex-A53 cores.
Qualcomm has confirmed that the new Snapdragon Wear SoCs will be released “within the next year.” The watch, codenamed Atherton, should be the first to use the new single-chip system.
