First tweet on Twitter sold for almost 3 million, money went to charity

Twitter co-founder and CEO Jack Dorsey auctioned off the very first tweet, published on March 21, 2006, posted by Dorsey himself, who then announced to the world that he was setting up his page.

Initially, the tweet was offered several hundred thousand dollars, then Hakan Estavi, the CEO of Bridge Oracle, offered $ 2.5 million. After a few more days of trading, the first tweet was sold to this person for $ 2.9 million.

Later, Jack Dorsey thanked Estavi and said that he was happy to donate all the proceeds from the sales to the charity Give Directly in Africa.

The “just setting up my twttr” tweet was sold on the Valuables platform, which hosts auctions for tweets that are “subscribed” by their authors. Tweets are sold as non-fungible tokens (NFTs), which are digital tokens that can verify the ownership and authenticity of a tweet.
