The Minister of Planning, Simone Tebet, stated that the new fiscal framework that will be presented by the Lula government will please everyone.
The minister’s speech took place after a lunch with the Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad. The meeting between the two ministers of the economic team took place to discuss the country’s new fiscal anchor.
“It is a responsible fiscal framework, concerned with fiscal responsibility, with the primary deficit, with debt/GDP stabilization, but meeting a fair request from the president of the republic, because as soon as Brazilian democracy, which we have to have the necessary resources for the Brazil will grow again.”, said Minister Simone Tebet.
The Planning portfolio representative was also asked if the new fiscal rule would be enough to please the market, and said that it will “please everyone, including the market”. Tebet said she could not elaborate on the new tax anchor or when it should be introduced.
The Minister of Finance himself, Fernando Haddad, said that he wants to present the framework model before the next meeting of the Copom (Monetary Policy Committee), which will take place on March 21st and 22nd. The expectation of the economic team is that the Committee sees the new framework as a security to start the process of lowering the basic interest rate.
