When the Rolling Stones wrap up their North American tour”Hackney Diamonds ” On July 21, the show’s location will be quite different from the bustling cities they’ve visited on the road. The band will perform in Ridgedale, Missouri – a town of less than a thousand people, nestled in the heart of the Ozark Mountains.
The Rolling Stones will take the stage at the 20,000-seat Thunder Ridge Nature Arena. Overlooking Table Rock Lake, the amphitheater opened in May and has already hosted the stars of American country music. Morgan Wallen It is Chris Stapleton .
The arena was built by Johnny Morris, founder and chief executive of Bass Pro Shops, a fishing and hunting equipment supplier. “We just wanted to share this beautiful part of the world with other people,” Morris, who grew up in Ozark, told Reuters.
“We’ve been holding events there for many years… small meetings and concerts. And then… we got carried away,” he said.
Like Red Rocks in Colorado and The Gorge in Washington, Morris’s arena immerses visitors in nature. “I went[to the Gorge]and I’m a little biased, but I felt like our beauty rivals that kind of beauty in a natural setting,” Morris said, adding that he just wanted to “see people have fun together in the outdoors.”
Profits from the site go toward conservation efforts in the Ozark region.
Getting the Stones is a huge achievement for any venue. For Morris, it all came down to his love by fishing . Twenty years ago, he met the musician Chuck Leavell who has performed with the Stones since 1982.
The two went fishing, and Morris helped Leavell catch “a huge fish.” “He said, ‘Johnny, this is the happiest day of my life… If I can do anything for you, let me know,’” Morris said.
The 76-year-old businessman asked for the favor years later. “I said, ‘Could you get the Rolling Stones to come to Ridgedale, Missouri?’ And he said, ‘Where? What?’ and (…) how it happened was simply because of fate, fishing and a friendship.”
He claimed that a group representing the Stones attended a Garth Brooks concert at a related venue and apparently liked what they saw.
The Stones’ tour is named after their critically acclaimed album released last October. At each stop, the frontman Mick Jagger 80 years old, commands the stage for two hours with the guitarists Keith Richards 80, and Ronnie Wood 77.
