Five cloistered nuns fleeing the convent, “irrespable climate”

A now worn climate, with unbearable defined tensions and coercions. So five nuns of the Clorse convent of San Giacomo di Veglia In Vittorio Veneto, in the province of Treviso, they decided to pack their bags, present themselves to the carabinieri and ask to be sheltered in a safe place. A gesture that has shaken a community well known in the ecclesiastical environment. At the basis of the removal there would be no act of criminal relevance but a climate of strong psychological pressure. The diocese of Vittorio Veneto confirms the commissioner of the Institute and the exit of the five religious without entering into the merits of a matter of competence of the religious order of belonging.

It is intended to discuss the story of five Cistercian nuns of the convent of San Giacomo di Veglia di Vittorio Veneto, in the province of Treviso. A place known as Roccaforte of faith but also of concreteness: the nuns are in fact producing a famous and appreciated Prosecco Docg.

The story comes from afar and precisely from a complaint born already in January 2023, when a letter from four nuns started from the convent addressed to the Pope, with accusations against the Mother Badessa. The diocese of Vittorio Veneto, although not entering the affair (because not competent), informs the decisions taken by the dicastery on the “critical situations found in the life of the community”. “With reference to the monastery of Saints Gervasio and Protasio of the Cistercian nuns in San Giacomo di Vaglia, which has been the subject of a recent apostolic visit – says the note of the Dicastery – having verified the permanence of some critical situations in the life of the community, relating to the service of authority and internal relations, the appointment of a pontifical commissioner and two councilors was ordered.

On the decision he intervenes with a note the same Cistercian order(to which the Treviso monastery belongs to jurisdiction) explaining that, as a consequence of the commissioner, “the mother Martha Driscoltl, an abbess that emerged from Gerdono (Indonesia) and so far superior of the monastery to the Salvie waters (three fountains) in Rome, has assumed all the skills that the particular legislation of the Institute and the universal one of the Church attribute to the Mother Abbadessa. Mother Luciana Pellegatta, abbess of Cortona, and Professor Donatella Forlani, were also appointed.
