Tragedy occurred in Indonesia when five members of the same family drowned in a lake when the pier on which they gathered to make one selfie collapsed, announced today, Thursday (27/5) the police.
The family, which had a total of 14 members, was located on the shores of Lake Kandy, a tourist site in the western part of Sumatra, according to APE-MPE.
“They were trying to take a selfie on the pier when the incident occurred,” said local police chief Junaid Nur, adding that the tourist site had not been monitored since it closed.
A 17-year-old is among the five dead. The other members of the family survived. Rescuers have collected the bodies and an investigation is under way, Junaid Noor added.
Earlier this month, nine Indonesians drowned when an overloaded boat capsized in an artificial lake in Java because onboard tourists wanted to take a selfie.
