Five people died during an action by the Military Police in the community of Covanca, in Jacarepaguá, in the west zone of Rio, on Monday afternoon (4). Four unidentified men are considered suspects by the corporation. A fifth victim, identified as Antônio Carlos Nascimento Lima, aged 35, was found dead by agents on Estrada da Covanca. The area was isolated for forensic examination. The Capital Homicide Police are investigating the case.
The four suspects were taken to Lourenço Jorge Municipal Hospital, in Barra da Tijuca, in the same region, but did not resist. According to the Municipal Health Department, everyone was admitted to the unit with gunshot wounds, without identification and already dead.
According to the PM, teams from the region’s battalion were checking reports when they were attacked by gunfire and a confrontation ensued. Three rifles, a grenade, a radio communicator and drugs were seized.
