A “direct attack” in the northern Israeli city of Metula, near the border with Lebanon, killed five people, including four foreigners, David Azoulai, head of the Metula Municipal Council, said in a statement on Thursday (31 ).
“An Israeli farmer and four foreign workers were killed. One of them was seriously injured and was transferred to the hospital,” said Azoulai. It is unclear what caused the attack or where the foreigners were from.
Video from Rambam Medical Center showed a seriously injured person being taken to the emergency room.
In a statement, Rambam said that a worker who was involved in the incident was taken to the trauma unit this Thursday. The individual, who has not yet been identified, “suffered serious shrapnel injuries to his body and is expected to undergo emergency surgery.”
Hezbollah has been launching rocket attacks in the area, but the group has not claimed responsibility for the attack.
