The Public Ministry of Rio de Janeiro charged a man for homophobia against the new president of Flamengo Luiz Eduardo Baptista, the Bap.
The complaint was presented to the Court through the of the 2nd Specialized Criminal Investigation Public Prosecutor’s Office, this Wednesday (18).
Bap was elected president of the Rio club on December 9th and took office this Wednesday (18th), on the ticket “Race, Love and Management” for the three-year period until 2027.
José Carlos Isidro Pereira, the Peruvian is accused of criminal incitement, racism and racial insult. He is member of the Flamengo Council and former candidate for President of the club.
Peruvian is accused of sending messages insulting, threatening, homophobic, prejudiced and discriminatory actions against the executive, according to the complaint.
The offenses were committed through audios sent in a group of club directors . According to the Public Ministry, the statements offended the president’s dignity, because of his “supposed sexual orientation”.
The Prosecutor’s Office also reports the need continuation of investigations to determine other homophobic manifestations of the accused . The body requested that the Civil Police, through the Racial Crimes and Intolerance Offenses Office (Decradi), launch a new police investigation.
THE CNN requested a position from Flamengo and José Carlos Peruano and is awaiting a response.
