Flamengo’s Everton Cebolinha undergoes surgery after ruptured Achilles tendon

Flamengo striker Everton Cebolinha underwent surgery this Wednesday (14), in Rio de Janeiro. The surgery was to correct the rupture of the Achilles tendon in his left ankle, suffered in the match against Palmeiras, last Sunday (11), for the Brazilian Championship.

“Clube de Regatas do Flamengo informs that athlete Everton Cebolinha underwent surgery to correct a ruptured Achilles tendon in his left ankle. The procedure was performed at Hospital CopaStar by Dr. Verônica Vianna, accompanied by Dr. Márcio Tannure, Flamengo’s health and high performance manager,” the Rio de Janeiro club reported.

Flamengo did not provide a recovery timetable, but injuries like this generally take three to five months. The number 11’s return is only expected towards the end of 2024 or in 2024.

Left-back Matías Viña, who left the game against Palmeiras after injuring his right knee, is also being monitored by the medical department.

Like Cebolinha, the Uruguayan was taken to a hospital immediately after the match for further tests.

With swelling in the area, the club is still waiting to define the treatment and confirm the severity of the ligament injury in the area.

Without Cebolinha and Viña, Flamengo returns to the field this Thursday (15) and faces Bolívar-BOL in the first leg of the round of 16 of the Copa Libertadores.
