Heavy rain caused destruction in the municipality of Frederico Westphalen, in the north of Rio Grande do Sul, late on Monday night (18) and early this Tuesday (19). According to the Municipal Civil Defense and the Fire Department in the region, there was more than 200 mm of rain in the last 12 hours, with 140 mm in less than an hour, which caused a strong flood.
This Tuesday, members of Frederico Westphalen city hall will hold an emergency meeting to adopt measures to help the population.
An inspection of the regions affected by the flood will be carried out. There is still no information about injuries.
The city hall requests through the Department of Social Assistance and Housing to collect furniture, blankets and mattresses to donate to people affected by the floods.
The city hall also reported that it is studying the possibility of issuing an emergency decree to address the situation.
Inmet (National Institute of Meteorology) issued a warning for the Northwest and Southwest of Rio Grande do Sul, with great risks of damage caused by storms. The alert remains in effect this Tuesday.
