Flooding of rivers affects 85% of Acre's municipalities, secretary tells CNN

Acre's Health Secretary, Pedro Pascoal, stated in an interview with CNN this Saturday (02) that recent floods in rivers in the region reached 19 of the 22 municipalities in the state. Some cities had more than 50% of their areas affected.

“The municipalities most affected were those considered difficult to access, where there is no accessibility by land, air or river,” he said.

Pascoal mentioned the situation in Jordão, which had the biggest flood in its history, which impacted several essential services, such as health, energy and telecommunications. He also cited Marechal Thaumaturgo, whose airstrip was deteriorated by rain, making the runway difficult. The situation was similar in Brasiléia, which had a bridge affected.

The government of Acre began on Friday (1st) the distribution of inputs and medicines from the Ministry of Health (MS) to municipalities affected by floods in the state's rivers.

Gladson Cameli, governor of the state, and Pedro Pascoal were at the organization's warehouse, in Rio Branco, to dispatch the first kits. Cameli informed that after this distribution, the rubble will be removed and the houses that were damaged will be restored.

According to the state administration, the waters have begun to recede considerably in some municipalities and the government is already preparing for the cleaning and sanitizing phase of affected homes and streets.
