The capital of Rio Grande do Sul is facing a critical situation due to the heavy rains that hit Rio Grande do Sul. Reporter Stêvão Limana, from CNN walked through the flooded streets of Porto Alegre, highlighting the impact of the floods.
In the Moinhos de Vento neighborhood, a higher region of the city, normality prevails, with businesses and services operating normally. However, just a few meters away, in the São Geraldo neighborhood, the situation is completely different.
The streets turned into rivers, with water invading houses, garages and even a children's school. Marks on the walls indicate that the water level reached more than 50 centimeters in some homes.
Abandoned animals
The reporter found an abandoned dog trying to look for food in the trash to face the floods. Some houses still house residents, who resist leaving their homes even with the water coming in.
Subsequently, the dog was saved and taken to a specific shelter for animals.
Forecast of worsening
Although the water has dropped a little in some places, the level is expected to rise again due to persistent rain. Authorities warn that reconstruction after the floods will be a long process, a true marathon.
Civil defense teams and security forces from other states are mobilized in Porto Alegre to assist in the rescue and assistance to flood victims. Solidarity spreads across Brazil, with donations being sent to help those affected by the catastrophe.
