Floods in Rio Grande do Sul leave 854 thousand people without water

The rains hitting Rio Grande Sul are causing stoppages in water, energy and telephone services, as well as damage to highways and changes in traffic, according to a bulletin released at 6pm this Sunday (5) by the state government.

At the moment, 854,486 people are without water supply, according to Corsan. This is equivalent to 27% of the total addresses served by the concessionaire.

Meanwhile, the lack of energy affects 424 thousand addresses in Rio Grande do Sul. On the RGE Sul network, there were 261 thousand points without energy (27% of total customers), while on the CEEE Equatorial line there were 163 thousand (9% of total customers).

There is also a stoppage of telephone and internet services on the Vivo (40 municipalities), TIM (34) and Claro (24) networks.

In an attempt to overcome the situation, operators have enabled their networks so that where there is only one network available, customers of any operator will automatically be able to access it.

Transport

Rio Grande do Sul has 110 sections of 61 highways with total and partial closures, including roads and bridges, according to data from the Autonomous Highway Department (Daer), consolidated with the Military Brigade Road Command (CRBM), also covering highways granted and administered by Empresa Gaúcha de Rodovias (EGR).

According to the bulletin, the Secretariat of Logistics and Transport (Selt) is working to clear the highways as quickly as possible, in order to guarantee vehicle and pedestrian traffic.

Schools

In total, 733 schools are compromised in 229 municipalities, that is, they are damaged, serving as shelters, with transport problems, access problems or other issues that prevent their functioning.
