São Paulo, Bahia, Minas Gerais and Rio de Janeiro are just some of the Brazilian states that have been hit by storms in the country since the end of last year. But the situation is nothing new. Floods and landslides have been recurrent, causing deaths and damage in several parts of Brazil.
Studies show that recent climate changes have exacerbated the problem and that extreme weather events tend to become even more frequent.
In this episode of E Tem Mais, Carol Nogueira presents an assessment of the repeated losses faced by large Brazilian cities during the heavy rains of the summer. To describe the phenomena that explain the recent storms and the challenges of urban planning to prevent new floods, meteorologist Josélia Pegorim, from Climatempo, and architect and urban planner Valter Caldana, professor at Mackenzie, participate in this episode.
