The trial of former federal deputy Flordelis and four other defendants was suspended on Wednesday night (9) after prosecutors from the Public Ministry presented an excerpt from a book that suggested that lawyer Janira Rocha had influenced witnesses in the case.
The lawyer for Flordelis and three others accused of participating in the murder of Pastor Anderson do Carmo, in 2019, spoke out in plenary denying the information. THE CNN Janira stated that she is a zealous professional and that she only talked to the witnesses, but did not give any guidance for them to lie.
After the confusion, Flordelis’ defense asked that the journalist who wrote the book be called to give a statement and clarify the excerpt from the book presented by the MP. The session was suspended and Judge Nearis dos Santos did not authorize the required hearing. The trial is expected to resume this Thursday (10), at 9 am.
On the third day of sessions, four witnesses were heard. One of them was Daiane Freires, Flordelis’ affective daughter. Through videoconference, she said that there was a practice of splitting (when part of the employee’s salary is returned to the parliamentarian) in Flordelis’ office.
Daiane also said that she witnessed sexual abuse by Pastor Anderson. According to her, Flordelis was aware of the situation, but minimized it.
“In fact, one night he came into our room and stroked our sister,” he said.
In addition, the affective daughter of the former parliamentarian cried and reported that she had a distant relationship with her mother.
“There was no dialogue. Within that family, we created another family. […] We created enmities inside the house because my mother didn’t want us to be happy”, he concluded.
Raquel Silva, Flordelis’ affective granddaughter, also testified on Wednesday. She said that one of the pastor’s biological granddaughters announced Anderson’s death in celebration.
In addition, two other witnesses were heard: Luana Rangel, Flordelis’ daughter-in-law, and Daniel Santos, affective son. To the jury, Luana said that Flordelis’ allies had different roles in planning the death of Pastor Anderson Carmo and that the former deputy had already tried to poison her husband, putting a suspicious substance in the juice delivered to him. Daniel, on the other hand, said that Flordelis was trying to manipulate him into believing that Anderson was not a “saint”.
Another 17 witnesses are expected to testify in the coming days. The trial, initially scheduled to conclude on Wednesday, could extend until the weekend.
According to Flordelis’ lawyer, Rodrigo Faucz, witnesses for the defense should begin to be heard this Thursday. The defense alleges that there is no evidence of the defendants’ involvement in Anderson do Carmo’s death.
“There is no evidence linking Flordelis, Marzy, Rayane and André to the murder. They keep talking about religiosity, ritual and anything else that has nothing to do with the crime, precisely to keep impacting the jurors from situations that have nothing to do with the crime. The defense considers this regrettable,” Faucz said.
In addition to the former federal deputy, four defendants are being tried: the biological daughter of Flordelis Simone dos Santos, granddaughter Rayane dos Santos and affective sons André Luiz and Marzy Teixeira. Simone felt sick during this Wednesday’s session and needed to be attended by the Mobile Emergency Care Service (SAMU).
Flordelis is accused of being the mastermind of the murder and is liable for triple qualified homicide – for clumsy reasons, use of cruel means and a resource that made it impossible to defend the victim -, attempted murder, use of false documents and armed criminal association.
Pastor Anderson do Carmo had been married to Flordelis for 25 years. He was shot to death on June 16, 2019, in the garage of the house where he lived with his family in Pendotiba, in the city of Niterói, Metropolitan Region of Rio de Janeiro. According to expert reports, 30 gunshot wounds were identified in the body.
