Florence and the Machine frontwoman Florence Welch has revealed she underwent emergency surgery that saved her life, forcing her to cancel shows.
“I had to have emergency surgery for reasons I still don’t feel strong enough to say, but it saved my life,” the 37-year-old singer wrote in an Instagram post on Sunday (28).
She apologized for canceling the band’s “last shows”. “I will be back to finish the ‘Dance Fever’ tour in Lisbon, Portugal, and Malaga, Spain, [talvez não saltando tanto, mas vocês podem fazer isso por mim]”, he added, confirming the return to performances on the 1st and 2nd of September.
“But creativity is a way of dealing with the situation, mythology is [uma] way to make sense. And the dark fairy tale of Dance Fever, with all its strange prophecies, will provide me with the strength and catharsis I need right now.”
British indie rock group Florence and the Machine have been nominated for seven Grammy Awards. Some of the band’s best known hit singles are “Dog Days Are Over”, “Shake It Out” and “You’ve Got the Love”.
Florence and the Machine’s “Dance Fever” tour was initially postponed in November when an X-ray revealed that Welch “was dancing with a broken foot” during a concert, she said on social media at the time.
“It’s not in my nature to postpone a show, and certainly not a UK tour, but I’m in pain and as dancers know, dancing with an injury is not a good idea. AND [me] told not to act to avoid further damage,” Welch said at the time.
