Florida performs megaoperation and arrests more than a thousand irregular immigrants

United States authorities made megaoperation to arrest irregular immigrants in the state of Florida. In all, 1,120 people were arrested, according to the state governor Ron Desantis.

The so -called “Operation Maré” took place between April 21 and 26 and involved federal, state and local agencies. The authorities called this the largest joint immigration operation in the history of Florida.

According to the Immigration and Customs Service (ICE), the detainees are “irregular foreigners with criminal record”.

Destiles celebrated the result and said it was a demonstration of state leadership in the application of immigration laws. “Florida has become the country’s spearhead in the application of the Federal Immigration Law,” said the Republican governor, ally of President Donald Trump.

During the press conference, Discantis stated that 63% of detainees had previous arrest warrants or criminal convictions, and many face serious accusations such as violent and sexual crimes. In addition, they are members of gangs or have calls with criminal organizations such as MS-13, Tren de Aragua, Barrio Azteca and the Calle 18 gang, among others, according to the governor.

Civil rights organizations raised concerns about racial discrimination and the legality of some prisons. However, disantis and ICE defended the “selective” nature of the operation, stating that the targets were individuals with proven criminal records.

The details of the operation

ICE sub -director Madison Sheahan has qualified the operation as one of the most successful in terms of collaboration between a state and the federal government.

Sheahan stated that the work was only possible thanks to the coordination between the agencies such as the FBI, the Dea, the Patrolla border and the Sheriff’s offices in 15 Florida -pounds, including Hillsborough, Orange, Pinellas and Volusia.

According to Ice, 437 prisoners were from Guatemala, 280 from Mexico, 153 from Honduras, 48 from Venezuela, 24 from El Salvador and 178 from other countries.

Detainees who have final deportation orders will be expelled immediately, according to ICE. Already the others will remain in custody until waiting for a court order.
