The expectation of selling flowers for All Souls’ Day is positive for traders. The estimate of the Brazilian Institute of Floriculture (Ibraflor) is that sales will rise approximately 10% compared to last year. The date represents 4% of the flower sector’s revenue.
In 2020, there was a 15% decline in sales and the sales recorded for the period was around 13 million units. In 2021, the segment managed to return to the sales level of 2019, with around 15 million units. Now, the perspective is for the evolution of sales and average price indicators, reaching 16.5 million units sold.
“The date of All Souls has always been and continues to be a very important date for the flower and plant sector. Today, it still remains important mainly because in the last two years, in 2020 and 2021, the cemeteries were closed. So, people were not able to honor their deceased, so the expectation is that, this year, this movement will be quite large. Many people who were unable to go in recent years are going this year”, highlights the director of the Brazilian Institute of Floriculture (Ibraflor), Renato Opitz.
The classic products associated with the date are mainly chrysanthemums in different sizes of pots and in clay vases and kalanchoes, or flower of fortune. In addition to these most popular items, anthuriums and peace lilies are on the list of flowers that have been gaining ground when honoring a loved one. Astromelia and roses also stand out in consumer preference to compose a tribute next to the picture frame.
