Financial market forecasts for 2022 inflation rose for the third consecutive week. The median of forecasts for the IPCA (Broad Consumer Price Index) reached 5.38%, compared to 5.15% last week.
The numbers are from the Focus Bulletin of the Central Bank (BC), released this Monday (31). The document gathers the estimates of more than 100 financial market institutions for the main economic indicators.
According to the inflation target set by the National Monetary Council (CMN) for this year, the IPCA should not exceed 5% this year. The center of the target is 3.5%, however, the margin of tolerance of 1.5 percentage points up or down allows the index to vary between 2% and 5%.
For 2023, the IPCA expected by the market went from 3.4% to 3.5%. The value is also above the target center of 3%, but still within the upper limit of 4.5%.
The economic growth estimate for 2022 has remained largely flat, ranging from 0.29% to 0.3% in one week. The projection for next year’s GDP (Gross Domestic Product) fell, from a growth of 1.69% to 1.55%.
