In the last week of the year, the financial market again reduced the projection for the growth of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of 2021. It is the 11th consecutive drop in the estimate, which went from a high of 4.58% to 4.51% in one week. A month ago, growth of 4.78% was expected in economic activity.
For 2022, analysts see a positive change of 0.42%. The level is below the economic growth registered in the three years prior to the start of the pandemic, when the Brazilian economy registered a 4% recession.
The numbers are from the Focus Bulletin of the Central Bank (BC), released this Monday (27). The document brings together the estimates of more than 100 financial market institutions for the main economic indicators.
The projection for the Extended Consumer Price Index (IPCA) this year also dropped, from 10.04% to 10.02%. For next year, the estimate remained at 5.03%.
Both forecasts are above the inflation target ceiling for 2021 and 2022, respectively, 5.25% and 5% – values already with a tolerance margin of 1.5 percentage point from the center of the target upwards.
