Analysts from one of the largest Russian operators MTS shared interesting statistics on the smartphone market in early 2022.

The Russian smartphone market in January-March 2022 grew by 15% in monetary terms and by 1.5% in real terms compared to the same period last year. In total, 6.5 million smartphones worth 177 billion rubles were sold in the first quarter of this year.
According to analysts, the main trend of the first quarter of 2022 is the switch in Russian demand from premium smartphones to models in the middle price segment. In January-March, the price segment of 20,000 – 40,000 rubles showed the greatest dynamics – sales of such gadgets increased by 90% compared to the same period last year.
Demand for devices more expensive than 50,000 rubles, which has been increasing throughout 2021, has slowed down – in the first three months of this year, sales of devices more than 50,000 rubles remained at the level of last year, and in March they fell by 30%.
According to analysts, the decline in sales of premium smartphones is due to the rise in price of gadgets due to the exchange rate and the growth of consumer demand for other goods. At the end of February and beginning of March 2022, the demand for food products, building materials, furniture, pet products and many other categories increased.
In terms of the number of gadgets sold for the three months of 2022, Samsung smartphones were the first — their share was 33%. In second place is Xiaomi (Redmi) with a Poco sub-brand – 25.8%. On the third – Apple with a share of 15.5%. Also, the top five most popular brands included Realme – 8.3% and Honor – 3.5%.
