Transport, food and housing services had the biggest increase in prices in the first week of April (from the 1st to the 7th of the month). The data are from the Consumer Price Index (IPC-S) of the GetĂșlio Vargas Foundation (FGV), which rose 1.62% and accumulates a high of 11.21% in 12 months, and were released this Monday (11).
The survey takes place in seven capitals âRio de Janeiro, SĂŁo Paulo, Belo Horizonte, Porto Alegre, Recife, Salvador and BrasĂliaâ, and in all of them the rate has accelerated. In five of them, the transport category had the most representative increase.
According to the FGV indicator until the last week of March, the price of transport in the city was 3.09%. In the first week of April, this value was 4.45% â an increase of 1.36 percentage points.
In the food group, five capitals showed a high consumption that includes meals inside and outside the home. According to economist André Braz, responsible for the FGV index, generalized inflation directly affected food, with emphasis on the inflation of in natura and processed goods.
âIn natura goods are suffering a seasonal supply shock in the summer, when demand is normally higher. Processed foods, on the other hand, are affected by the war, due to the high prices of commodity derivatives, such as wheat and corn. Due to this variation, it is possible to observe an increase in products such as bread, wheat flour, and even chicken, due to the price of corn.â, explains Braz.
A survey of CNN Brazil, based on the accumulated inflation of the last twelve months, found that the foods that increased the most were carrots (up 166.17%), tomatoes (94.55%) and peppers (80.44%). Other items that also stand out are: potatoes (27.15%), cabbage (24.96%) and onions (13.84%).
According to Braz, the increase in transport is due to the high price of gasoline and diesel, with a focus on private passenger transport. As fuels are considered as administered prices âthose in which the readjustments are defined by contracts or by the public sector, and national â they end up affecting the country in a homogeneous way.
Rio de Janeiro was the only capital that registered the greatest variation in housing prices. According to Braz, the result comes from the 14.68% increase in electricity, defined in mid-March. The economist says that next week it will be possible to observe this impact on the electricity bill.
