The July IPCA dropped 0.68% in July, influenced by the reduction in fuel and energy prices, according to FGV economist André Braz.
in interview to CNN this Tuesday (9), the specialist said that, despite the drop in the index, the food sector remains under pressure, but the price of products should cool down in the second half of the year.
“Food continues to be the great villain of inflation this year. The indicator for July shows that it is still very pressured, as some products normally rise a lot in price at this time of year, as is the case of milk and dairy products”, he highlighted.
“But counting on good crops, and with the recent slowdown in the price of important commodities such as corn, soybeans and wheat, we already have a trend towards a slowdown in food on our radar,” he added.
André Braz pointed out that the deceleration of food will be “slow and gradual”, different from the shock that occurred with fuel and energy, which fell after a blow from the government in cutting ICMS.
“Food will continue to be a major villain in 2022, burdening families with budgets, but perhaps it will offer a truce during this second half of the year,” he added.
