Brazilian football star Ronaldo de Assis Moreira, known as Ronaldinho, may be detained – the country’s authorities want to interrogate him as part of a cryptocurrency fraud investigation.

This is the second time Ronaldo de Assis Moreira has ignored demands to testify, according to local media reports. Therefore, he can be detained and forcibly brought to the courtroom. On August 24, the football player was unable to attend the hearings in Congress due to adverse weather conditions. The next hearing is scheduled for August 31, and if Ronaldinho does not testify again, law enforcement officials may detain him.

The investigation concerns the company “18kRonalinho”, which law enforcers consider a financial pyramid. The firm offers clients a profit of 2% per day through investments in cryptocurrency. The company was sued for more than $61 million in damages for failing to pay promised profits. This lawsuit is part of a wider investigation into cryptocurrency scams in Brazil.

However, Ronaldinho’s lawyers claim that the footballer was just an “ambassador” of the company and he himself became a victim of fraud. Lawyers emphasize that the image and name of the Brazilian star was used without permission.

Ronaldinho previously launched a collection of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) with INFLUXO. In addition, in 2018 he became the “face” of the ICO for the development of virtual stadiums.
