The Brazilian footwear industry projects for 2022 to expand its production from 1.8% to 2.7% over last year, reported this Wednesday (13) to Abicalçados, an entity that brings together companies in the sector. This, in volume, projects a total between 820.8 million and 828 million pairs.
Although the forecast data are for growth, the entity makes the reservation that, in case of compliance with the forecast, the volume will still be 8% lower than the pre-pandemic level.
More than that, 16% of all this forecasted production will be destined for exports, which will lead to an apparent consumption growth of only 0.9% to 1.6%. Apparent consumption of a good is the sum of its production plus imports and minus exports.
In terms of volume, Abicalçados expects to export 9.5% more this year than in 2021, which could lead to a value of around US$ 1 billion.
