PDT’s pre-candidate for the presidency, Ciro Gomes, said this Monday (13) that the minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) Luís Roberto Barroso was wrong to invite the Armed Forces to participate in this year’s electoral process – through the Electoral Transparency Commission (CTE), led by the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) —, given the suspicions raised by Jair Bolsonaro about electronic voting machines.
In an interview with the G1 podcast “The Subject”, the pedestrian said that it is not up to the Armed Forces to give an opinion on elections.
“What is unreasonable is to involve the military in the electoral process. Serious error by Minister Barroso, error by the Minister of Defense […]. In good faith, he made one of the serious mistakes at this point, inviting the Army to enter the electoral process. What is that?”, asked Ciro.
The invitation to the Armed Forces was made by Barroso in August of last year, when he was still president of the TSE. Last Friday (10), the Ministry of Defense sent new questions to the TSE about the fairness of the election. The Court responded to the aforementioned points, defending “peace and security” in the elections.
THE CNN sought out Minister Barroso to comment on the statements, but he said he would not comment. The Defense Ministry has not yet responded.
Also according to the pedestrian, it would be up to the Army only to guarantee security on election day.
“By order of Justice [eles podem participar]. As they have always done, by order of Justice, in certain places, where a lot of attention is required. Flame. There they are the ordering factor for the election to take place with tranquility. I’m talking about calling the Army to give its opinion on the electoral process. This has nothing to do with the Armed Forces. This is banana republic stuff.”
Debate
THE CNN will hold the first presidential debate of 2022. The clash between the candidates will be broadcast live on August 6, on TV and on our digital platforms.
