For every 10 jobs, 8 are created in small businesses, discloses Sebrae

Small businesses are responsible for practically eight out of ten formal jobs created in Brazil. The data is part of a report produced by Sebrae based on the General Register of Employed and Unemployed People (Caged), where admissions and dismissals in the formal labor market are recorded.

According to the study, obtained exclusively by Broadcast (Grupo Estado’s real-time news system), despite the 26.5% drop in job creation at micro and small companies – from 2.17 million to 1.6 million jobs between 2021 and 2022 – their participation in the total number of jobs created in the country rose from 77.7% to 78.4%.

Last year, the sectors where small businesses hired the most were services, with more than 828 thousand jobs created, commerce (332.6 thousand new jobs) and civil construction (229.8 thousand). In the manufacturing industry, micro and small companies opened 158.3 thousand jobs in 2022, while in agriculture and livestock another 30.8 thousand jobs were created.

“As in 2022, I am sure that, this year, micro and small companies, mainly in the figure of the individual micro-entrepreneur, will continue to drive our economy, with emphasis on the services and commerce sectors”, says the president of Sebrae, Carlos Melles, when commenting on the survey.
