FAS has developed new guidelines for the calculation of electricity tariffs for the population.

Now there is a whole range of tariffs at which consumers pay “for electricity”. For example, for residents with electric and gas stoves, for villagers, day and night tariffs for those who have installed special meters.

However, residents often try to earn money using electricity at low tariffs.

“The problem of cross-subsidization has become more urgent in connection with the spread of commercial cryptocurrency mining,” says Pavel Sklyanchuk, an expert of the Popular Front. “Anomalous consumption creates an overload of power grids that were not designed for such capacities. cheap electricity for the population

To solve the problem, FAS proposes to introduce a “threshold” for electricity consumption, which will cut off household needs from commercial ones. It is supposed to calculate how many kilowatt-hours a resident of an apartment or house can spend as much as possible – taking into account the active use of air conditioners, stoves, irons, kettles, TVs and other household appliances.

Perhaps at first the bar will be set at the highest possible level and will be gradually adjusted.

If the guidelines are approved soon, differentiated tariffs may come into effect from the second half of 2023.

At the same time, it is noted that the introduction of future differentiated tariffs is a right, and not an obligation, of the regions. Moreover, in the first two years after their introduction, tariffs should differ by no more than 40% from the current ones.

It is believed that the use of differentiated tariffs will not only reduce the interest in mining and other types of earnings under the guise of domestic consumption, but also prevent power surges and other problems with the power grid due to the large consumption of “shadow merchants”.
