For six months, prices for laptops in Russia fell by 30%: supply significantly exceeds demand

Initially, against the backdrop of sanctions restrictions, it was assumed that an unprecedented shortage of laptops would arise in Russia, and those devices that remained available for sale would be sold at fabulous prices. However, in reality, the picture turned out to be completely different – already at the beginning of 2023, the Russian market not only overcame the expected shortage, but also completely dispelled the myth of the impending incredible price increase. The fact is that in fact, there is now a noticeable oversupply of devices on the Russian laptop market – this was reported yesterday, January 30, by an employee of one of the major vendors operating in the country to the Izvestia information publication.

The source told the publication that thanks to the establishment of parallel imports of models from well-known manufacturers and active actions on the part of Chinese brands, supply in Russia significantly exceeds demand at the moment. As a result, the prices of products of many well-known laptop manufacturers began to gradually decline, which is quite logical – these are the basic laws of the economy. In some situations, the cost of laptops fell by 15%, but certain models fell in price by as much as 30%, allowing potential buyers to buy devices even cheaper than before the introduction of various sanctions.

The journalists of the information publication, citing their source, noted that the largest price drop is noticeable on laptops from Huawei and MSI. For example, gadgets from the MSI PLUS line have fallen in price by about 24% since October 2022, so now the average price for these models is a little over one hundred thousand rubles. The Huawei MateBook B3-520 model has fallen in price by 30%, so now the gadget can be easily purchased for only 60 thousand rubles. However, the specialist noted that prices have fallen for specific models of certain manufacturers – the same MSI has laptops that, on the contrary, have become more expensive or cheaper by only a few thousand rubles.

Probably the reason is that certain models are imported in large quantities and they collect dust in warehouses, gradually losing value, while other laptops arrive in small quantities, maintaining a balance of supply and demand. But at the moment, it is clear that the gaming laptop market will definitely experience an oversupply at least in the first half of 2023, and what happens next is all up to retailers.
