For stricter measures Italy, a three-week national lockdown is not ruled out

The cases coronavirus and their course worries the new government of Mario Draghi in Italy, which, according to the Italian press, is preparing to tighten the measures imposed so far, with the aim of reducing them.

As the newspaper Corriere della Sera points out, and is rebroadcast by AMPE, the Italian Presidency of the Government and the Ministry of Health are deeply concerned about the course of infections, due to the growing prevalence of virus variants. In several hospitals, especially in southern Italy, patient admissions have risen sharply and the whole situation is reminiscent of the “second wave” of the pandemic last November.

The new measures are likely to take effect next Friday. The interventions considered so far are total closure of commercial enterprises in all areas where schools do not work, the ability to start the traffic ban from 8 pm (so far enters into force on 10) or, in the event that cases are not reduced, a national lockdown about three weeks.

This afternoon, the Italian Ministers for Health, Regional Affairs, Economic Development and Culture will meet with the committee of experts advising the Draghi government, with a view to making a thorough report on the consequences of the pandemic and to be able to take all relevant decisions immediately.
