For the first time in history, signature recognition is done digitally in Brazil

For the first time in history, Brazilians will be able to recognize a firm in a fully digital way in any registry office in the country. The online platform, which started operating on Tuesday (7), will benefit the more than 100 million users who use the service annually, according to a survey by the CNN .

The project had its initial conception in mid-2020, due to the need for social isolation and digitalization of projects, caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The notarization is the procedure that certifies the authorship of the signature on a document. The certificate is used, for example, in the purchase of real estate and automobiles.

THE CNN the president of the Federal Council of the Notary College of Brazil (CNB/CF), Giselle Oliveira de Barros said that digitalization will bring “comfort and agility” to Brazilians.

“With this launch, we have completed the migration of 100% of notarial acts to the digital environment, and from now on, citizens can choose between going to a Notary’s Office or doing the service electronically. It is a huge facility for users, who gain in convenience and agility”, highlights Giselle de Barros.

The measure will also bring environmental benefits, as the measure may restrict the use of millions of sheets of paper in the country. According to environmentalists heard by the CNN saving this volume of paper means preserving at least 100 trees a year, just by digitizing the signature recognition.

“We are talking about this amount of trees only looking at a specific service. The number is much higher if we count the processes in general, which are being progressively digitized. Fortunately today you can access the processes via digital. Paper will never cease to exist, but the digital part has very positive aspects”, says Mario Moscatelli, environmentalist and researcher.

The digitalization of notarization is part of a modernization process carried out by Brazilian notaries. Since 2020, divorce processes, wills, inventories and powers of attorney are carried out completely online in Brazil.
