For those who want to get away from Windows, a lightweight Linux Lite 6.0 has been released. Beautiful and simple

Linux Lite is a distribution aimed at those who want to migrate from Windows. It is positioned as a lightweight platform for low-power computers, the most similar to the system from Microsoft in design. However, in the past, Linux Lite developers forgot or paid little or no attention to users with disabilities – now, with the release of version 6.0 Fluorite based on Ubuntu 22.04 LTS, the system has become more inclusive. Of course, this is only part of the innovations.

The most noticeable innovation was the new Materia theme, available in light and dark versions. It is no longer new to Linux and is based on the canons of Material Design, a language style used in Android.

Windows comes with various accessibility features out of the box, so Linux Lite’s lack of them was an oversight. Now there is an on-screen keyboard, the Orca screen reader and the option to zoom in on the desired part of the screen (virtual magnifier), as well as the ability to adjust the zoom.

Firefox used to be the preinstalled browser, but now it comes as a Snap package from Ubuntu. Linux Lite decided not to scare off former Windows users and found a solution with as few package managers as possible – the choice became obvious and fell on Chrome. In addition, the developers built into it an extension of the well-known Virus Total service (it can be disabled) – when downloading files, it will prompt users to scan them in antiviruses.

Also, from now on, in each major assembly of Linux Lite, the current stable version of the LibreOffice office suite will be supplied.

Separately, former Windows users will appreciate the “System Monitoring Center” (System Monitor), which is very similar to the “Task Manager” they are used to.
