Twitter communicated this Wednesday, at the request of the CNN, which is analyzing the growth and decrease in the number of followers on the platform’s profiles. According to the company, a first observation points out that the variation is organic, that is, it was not stimulated.
In Brazil, government members and supporters celebrated the significant increase in followers. The oscillation was also noted by data experts.
Christopher Bouzy, founder of Bot Sentinel, which tracks robot activities on the social network, identified the increase of more than 100,000 followers on the profile of President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) in two days.
“These swings appear to have been largely a result of an increase in the creation of new accounts and the deactivation of others, organically,” Twitter generally reported of several accounts reviewed.
Twitter said it still continues to monitor variations and that the policy of taking down fake and automated profiles remains in place. “We will continue to review these changes and, as part of our ongoing efforts, take action against accounts that violate our spam policy,” the company said.
In the statement, Twitter does not relate the variation in the number of followers to the platform’s purchase process by billionaire Elon Musk. The deal has not yet been completed.
