Ford changes management to strengthen supply chain and electric vehicles

To drive battery-powered vehicle development, Ford has announced the appointment of Doug Field as director of advanced product development as well as chief technology officer.

In the expanded role, Field will oversee electric vehicle products, software and digital systems development and advanced driver assistance, Ford said.

Field, who previously led Apple’s car project, was hired by Ford last year to lead the automaker’s efforts in advanced technology and embedded systems.

“Developing and scaling the next generation of electric and software-defined vehicles requires a different focus and mix of talent,” Chief Executive Jim Farley said in a statement.

The company also said it is hiring former HP and Google employees to support the development of fully connected, software-based vehicles and advanced driver assistance systems.
