Since it stopped producing vehicles in the country last year, Ford has focused its activities on research and development, in addition to importing the brand’s models.
Aware that the automotive sector will demand increasingly advanced electrification, connectivity and autonomy technologies, the company announced this Thursday (30) the creation of the Ford Academy.
One of the activities will be the training, in the technological area, of underprivileged young people, specifically in programming, a rising segment.
The project is in partnership with the National Service for Industrial Learning (Senai) and will operate at the teaching institute’s facilities in the Ipiranga neighborhood, in the south zone of São Paulo.
Registration for the course opened yesterday. 200 students over 18 years of age who have completed high school will be selected. It’s free and doesn’t require tech knowledge. The first class starts on January 16th with 80 students.
Ford will provide funds for food and transportation in the metropolitan area and Greater São Paulo, and computers will be available. “We will keep an eye on diversity. Self-declared black, brown, yellow or indigenous people, belonging to the LGBTQI+ community, women and trans will be prioritized in the selection process”, says Rogelio Golfarb, vice president of Ford South America.
The Brazilian Association of Information and Communication Technologies Companies (Brasscom) informs that the lack of professionals in the area of IT (information technology) is global. Brazil alone, according to the entity, will require around 800,000 professionals by 2025.
The entity calculates that there will be a deficit of more than 500,000 specialists in the sector, if training offers do not arise. Today, this gap is already 400,000 professionals.
According to Golfarb, after completing the course, which lasts six months, Senai will help students find professional placement. “Those with superior performance will be able to take an extra course and compete for a job at Ford, as this is also one of the company’s interests: generating talent to be part of our team.”
Research Center
In this new format of operations in the country, Ford expanded the capacity of its research and development center in Bahia. In May, it hired 500 engineers, bringing the total number of professionals in this area to around 1,500.
The center currently has 25% of its activities focused on adaptations to imported vehicles and 75% on cooperation and development of global projects. This year, the group is going to earn BRL 500 million in engineering exports.
An arm of the research center, the Ford Academy will also hold seminars, courses and visits for employees, distributors and fleet owners on electrification, autonomous technologies and technical training for mechanics in the authorized network. The amount invested in the project was not informed.
