The F-150 Lightning with Ford Intelligent Backup Power can power an entire home in the event of a power outage. This is the first electric pickup to offer this capability.
If it goes out suddenly, Ford F-150 Lightning owners will feel more comfortable, because the electric pickup truck can provide normal operation at home for up to three days. The automaker has teamed up with Sunrun to create a new system that will turn the F-150 Lightning into an independent power source. The setup consists of the truck itself, a Ford Charge Station Pro Level-2 wall charger, and a new system that includes a power inverter, a battery, and a switch that provides bi-directional power flow between the car and the home. Moreover, the installation will immediately work in the event of an accident.

If you opt for the F-150 Lightning’s high-capacity battery, which can store 131kWh of energy and support up to 9.6kW, you can power your entire home for up to three days, according to the automaker. If you control consumption and use this function in combination with solar energy, then the time can be stretched up to 10 days.
So far, only one thing is unknown: how much the entire installation will cost. The Ford Charge Station Pro comes with any F-150 Lightning with a high-capacity battery, but as CNET Roadshow points out, you’ll have to pay for installation. The brand said you can contact your local Ford or Sunrun dealer if you’re interested.

In previous news, it was reported that Ford plans to invest up to $20 billion in order to take its place in the electric vehicle market.
