Ford will release another electric car based on the Volkswagen platform

In the summer of 2019, the American automaker Ford and the German Volkswagen announced the expansion of their partnership. The result of the joint work is an all-electric crossover based on the Volkswagen MEB platform, which will debut next year and will be assembled at the Cologne plant. But this is not the only project that Ford and Volkswagen are working on.

According to the Motor1.com portal, citing a joint press release from the two auto giants, Ford is preparing to release another all-electric car based on the Volkswagen MEB platform. What kind of model it will be and what characteristics Fold and Volkswagen will give it, so far one can only guess. It is only reported that the car will receive an SUV-type body, or, simply put, we are talking about a crossover.

As part of the expansion of cooperation with Volkswagen, Ford decided to increase the planned production volume of cars based on electric MEB. If initially it planned to produce about 600 thousand electric vehicles on the Volkswagen platform in the next six years, now it has decided to double this volume to 1.2 million units.

By the way, on March 14, Ford announced its strategy for the electrification of the lineup in Europe. As part of the new project, the American automaker promises to introduce three more new electric vehicles by 2024, which will join the already released Mustang Mach-E and Mach-E GT.

The first electric car will be a mid-size crossover that will debut in late 2022 and go on sale in 2023. In about a year, Ford is going to release another crossover with an electric motor instead of an internal combustion engine. According to rumors, this will be a sports model that will compete with the Volkswagen ID.5 GTX. And the third new electric vehicle Ford is currently working on is an all-electric version of the Puma compact crossover. It will be assembled at the Ford plant in Romania starting in 2024.
