Ford will release virtual cars in the metaverse

Renowned car manufacturer Ford has filed 19 trademark applications with the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for virtual SUVs, trucks and even clothing.

According to USPTO licensed attorney Mike Kondoudis, the company plans to launch its most popular marques in the metaverse, including the Mustang, Bronco, Explorer and F-150. In addition, Ford will sell its branded products as NFTs – users will be able to purchase various artwork, texts and videos about the company’s vehicles.

The metaverses are supposed to launch “downloadable virtual goods”, that is, computer programs that can be used in virtual worlds. These can be Ford-branded clothing items, virtual cars themselves, and car parts. The company is also considering launching its own NFT trading platform.

Ford is far from the first automaker to turn its attention to the metaverse. Earlier, the Korean division of the French company Renault entered into an agreement with The Sandbox platform to host its own platform in the virtual world.
